Job Description

This position entails the calculation and design of residential On-site Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), performing preliminary field work to determine the best location for design, conducting installation inspections, and creating and maintaining records for these. The person who fills this position should be a self-motivated individual who has a commitment to excellence, creativity, respect, and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilies

→   Perform standard field work following established procedures including contour/site slope evaluation, soil treatment area (STA) size calculations and the preliminary staking of such in conformance with state and local regulations, e.g. setbacks and sizing criteria, and soil profile hole examination/sample collection and geotechnical laboratory analysis at our Fairplay office.

→   Discuss field observations and test results with the property owner and/or contractor to ensure adequate project execution with accuracy and timely reporting.

→   Use computer aided drafting (CAD) software to prepare site plans and OWTS designs, including the work-up of cross sections and other standard details, in addition to the integration of field notes and laboratory soils testing results.

→   Perform site visits and installation inspections to ensure conformance with state and local regulations as well as the design.

→   Collect measurements in the field sufficient to create site sketches for as-built record drawings when construction is nearing completion.

→   Maintain a quality program by performing some equipment checks and calibrations.

→   Obtain necessary field technician certifications and continuing education.

Requirements

Some of our clients build in remote mountainous terrain and this may require a strong-willed individual adept to living and working in this type of environment. Good driving skills, situational awareness, and backcountry preparedness are necessary. At times it will be necessary to drive in icy/snowy conditions with limited visibility, and a 4x4 or AWD vehicle will be necessary to commute to work. Once at work, a company vehicle will generally be available for use for transportation between job sites.

Competency with Microsoft Office programs e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel

Good math aptitude

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and familiarity with driving in a mountain environment (see description above)

Applicant should be in good physical condition, capable of performing field and office work, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly
      •
Work at high elevations above 10,000 feet
      •
Good AutoCAD and/or BricsCAD aptitude or the ability to learn on your own – 2000 or a newer version/year is acceptable
      •
Thorough familiarity with septic systems, residential construction, and reading plats
      •
CPOW or NAWT association/certifications are a plus
