Job Description

This position entails the structural design of residential homes, which includes performing mathematical calculations of beams, columns, foundations, and other structural elements, and working with the project engineer to practically and efficiently integrate these effectively and accurately into plans to be used in construction. The person who fills this position should be a self-motivated individual who has a commitment to excellence, creativity, respect, and accountability. Our firm has office locations in Westcliffe, Salida, and Fairplay.

Duties and Responsibilies

→   Develop detailed designs and structural drawings using computer aided drafting(CAD) software

→   Model complex wood, steel, and concrete structures with minimal supervision

→   Develop complex design layouts that consider and incorporate requirements from other engineering disciplines to create a coordinated, unified design

→   Occasionally visit existing structures to create floor plans/schematics of existing construction and perform inspections

Requirements

Some of our clients build in remote mountainous terrain and this may require a strong-willed individual adept to living and working in this type of environment. Good driving skills, situational awareness, and backcountry preparedness are necessary. At times it will be necessary to drive in icy/snowy conditions with limited visibility, and a 4x4 or AWD vehicle will be necessary to commute to work. The opportunity to work remotely is possible for those who are self-motivated and require minimal supervision.

Good communication skills, a willingness to learn, good focus, with attention to details and self-motivation

High school diploma or equivalent
      •
Competency with Microsoft Office programs e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel
      •
Good math aptitude
      •
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and familiarity with driving in a mountain environment (see description above)
      •
Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work assignments and deal with conflicting priorities
      •
Thorough familiarity with structural design and residential construction, preferably with experience in structural detailing
      •
Good AutoCAD and/or BricsCAD aptitude or the ability to learn on your own – 2000 or a newer version/year is acceptable
      •
Design experience with single-family whole house construction and methods are a must
      •
Ability to meet quality standards and project deadlines
      •
EIT certification or P.E. certification is a plus and will be considered in the salary offered
      •
Being willing to work at the Fairplay office is a plus.
Additional Information

Benefits for full-time employees include paid vacation, paid sick leave, and a $30/month cell phone reimbursement. Bonuses are based on the company’s performance and your personal contributions, and are typically provided in autumn of each year. If your contributions are greater than your bonus, then we prefer to adjust your salary or give you some additional paid time off.
